Produced by ZDB's bandleader Aurora Flores, this bomba number is choreographed by Gilda Rivera Pantoja, director of the theatrical dance troupe Danza Fiesta. It was written by Ismael Rivera mother, Doña Margot and popularized by Cortijo y su Combo who dressed bomba up in its Sunday best and took this Afro-Boricua rhythm all over the world with his music. Were it not for Rafael Cortijo, bomba and plena would have remained obscured genres relegated only to cliques and street corners. Cortijo lifted the genre, orchestrated it, made catchy, danceable arrangements and featured a great singer, Ismael Rivera, proving that anyone can play in the streets but it takes real artists to interpret any art and bring it into contact with other cultures to experience the shared roots of our rhythms. Filmed by Alfie Alvarado.
